Programs

Connecting Experts. Amplifying Impact.

Through strategic mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and targeted skill-building, SPR programs help pediatric scientists grow, lead, and make an impact. Our initiatives are designed to strengthen cross-institutional relationships, accelerate research progress, and support the advancement of pediatric researchers throughout their careers.

Journeys & Frontiers in Pediatric Research

Now in its sixth year, the American Pediatric Society & Society for Pediatric Research® Journeys & Frontiers in Pediatric Research Program is a transformative career development initiative that empowers early-career investigators to advance the future of pediatric medicine. Investigators in the US and Canada are nominated by their Department Chairs to join the prestigious program.

Since its inception, more than 500 investigators have taken part in this unique experience. Participants meet virtually once a month from November through June, joining a small cohort of peers and two APS and SPR leaders. Together, they exchange feedback on research, gain practical career insights, and hear inspiring stories from accomplished scientists—all designed to spark growth, collaboration, and discovery.

Mid-Career Research Leadership Development Program

This program equips mid-career pediatric scientists with the leadership skills and competencies needed to navigate their careers. Designed by and for pediatric investigators, it focuses on peer-identified topics such as:

  • Research leadership and team building strategies
  • Advancement and promotion in academia
  • Non-traditional avenues to pursue child health research

Grant Writing 101

Grant writing is an essential skill for emerging pediatric scientists, and this program provides guidance to help participants succeed. Grant Writing 101 is designed for members preparing to submit early K-series grants; specifically, a full K08 or K23 application.

National Research Cohorts Program

The National Research Cohorts Program brings together early-career pediatric investigators for small-group, topic-focused sessions led by mid- and senior-career researchers. These cohorts provide a trusted environment for sharing challenges, building a career in academic medicine, and mentorship.
