Grant Writing 101 Workshop

The Grant Writing 101 Workshop is a six-month, foundational cohort program designed to equip early-career pediatric researchers with the skills and strategies needed to submit competitive grant applications. Led by Krithika Lingappan, MD, MS, PhD, Jill Maron, MD, MPH, and Lakshmi Raman, MD, the program combines targeted instruction, real-time feedback, and collaborative peer support.

Participants learn how to craft compelling proposals, align research goals with funding priorities, navigate NIH and foundation grant funding, and avoid common pitfalls. Grant Writing 101 aims to help you succeed in a highly competitive funding environment.

Program Details

Participants will work in small cohorts, each guided by dedicated facilitators who offer personalized feedback throughout the six-month program. Sessions are held monthly and focus on specific sections of the K grant.  

Grant Writing 101 is limited to five participants per cohort to ensure highly individual guidance and meaningful peer collaboration. By the end of the program, each participant will have a complete, polished K award application and a deeper understanding of the grant writing process.

This program is ideal for pediatric fellows, postdoctoral researchers, and junior faculty who are preparing to submit a K-level grant application within the next year.

  • Must be an SPR Emerging to Established (E2E) Member or within 1-2 years of Active SPR Membership
  • Must work and reside in the United States
  • Fellows must provide a letter from their Chair stating that they will be continuing appointment as Instructor or Assistant Professor the same institution
  • Applicants are planning to submit an A0 application for an individual K award (not an institutional K) for June or October 2027 deadlines 
  • Submit all draft sections and peer reviews on time
  • Attend all scheduled virtual sessions (inpatient service on meeting days is strongly discouraged)
  • Actively engage in discussions and serve as a peer mentor
  • Present a clearly outlined research project
  • Secure a committed mentor at your institution
  • Full participation is required – missed sessions or deadlines may result in dismissal from the program
