Douglas K. Richardson Award for Perinatal and Pediatric Health Care Research 

The Douglas K. Richardson Award for Perinatal and Pediatric Health Care Research recognizes the lifetime achievement of an investigator who has made substantial contributions to child health. Established in honor of Dr. Douglas K. Richardson, this award celebrates leadership in child health services, perinatal and pediatric research and the longstanding support of the Society for Pediatric Research (SPR). 

Submission Timeline: August 15 – September 30 

Award

  • One recipient is selected annually 
  • Formal recognition at the PAS Meeting 
  • Economy-level travel expenses, hotel accommodation for 2 nights 
  • Complimentary registration to the PAS Meeting will be provided 
  • Honorarium provided after the PAS Meeting

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be child health researchers of any specialty or advanced degree, including PhDs 
  • Displayed a sustained record of excellence as a clinical investigator 
  • Society for Pediatric Research membership is not required

Current Curriculum Vitae of the Nominee

  • Include research activities 


Detailed Letter of Nomination, providing evidence of substantive research contributions in any of the following areas:

  • Effective utilization of healthcare services 
  • Identification of risk factors for adverse outcomes 
  • General epidemiologic health services studies 
  • Patient-oriented clinical studies that lead to improved healthcare delivery to the neonatal or broad pediatric populations 


Three Letters of Support (other than nominator)

  • Should substantiate the nominee’s research career achievements and/or evidence of mentorship

Selection Process

  • The Committee for the Douglas K. Richardson Award will be solely responsible for recipient selection 
  • The award will be presented to one individual annually at the PAS Meeting 
  • Members of the selection committee cannot nominate or support any nominations 
  • The award will only be chosen when there are eligible candidates 

Current Recipient

Dr. Grace Aldrovandi is a physician-scientist and Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital and a Professor of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine of the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Aldrovandi received her undergraduate and her medical degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She completed an internship and residency at McGill, as well as a research fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at the University of California, Los Angeles.
