Mihai Puia-Dumitrescu, MD, MPH
Dr. Mihai Puia-Dumitescu is a neonatologist and physician-scientist whose work focuses on optimizing outcomes for critically ill and medically complex infants. His research integrates critical illness physiology, epidemiologic methods, and clinical trial design to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes and drug therapy in premature and critically ill neonates. His scholarly interests span neurophysiology, pharmacoepidemiology, and neonatal therapeutics, with a growing focus on congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). As Co-Director of the CDH Program at Seattle Children’s Hospital, Dr. Puia-Dumitescu leads efforts to build a multidisciplinary center of excellence for infants with CDH, combining clinical innovation, family-centered care, and collaborative research. He also serves as Associate Medical Director of the NICU and Director of Clinical Research for the Division of Neonatology, where he supports faculty development, scholarly productivity, and strategic academic initiatives. Nationally, he is Chair-Elect of the AAP District VIII Section on Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine and a member of the Newborn Brain Society’s Communication and Networking Committee. Through his combined leadership, research, and teaching, Dr. Puia-Dumitrescu is committed to advancing the science and practice of neonatal care.
