SPR Mid-Career Research Leadership Development Program
Overview
SPR’s Mid-Career Research Leadership Development Program was developed to aid mid-career’ pediatrician-scientists and other scientists and researchers focused on child health’ in building skills and competency in important topics identified in a recent member survey – Leading a Research Group and Career Transitions.
About the Program
The program will include six (6) virtual sessions, held every other month (1-year total), with each of the main topics split into three sessions focused on sub-topics.
Using a flipped classroom model, each session will include assigned 1-2 hours of reading/pre-work to be completed by participants before convening on a Zoom meeting to discuss the pre-work and topic in more detail with a facilitator.

Leading a Research Group

- Managing interpersonal conflict
- Motivational approaches
- Team mission/team ground rules
Career Transitions

- Leadership pathways in academia
- Advancement/promotion
- Academic job search
- Non-traditional avenues to pursue child health research
- Transitioning to industry or a new career
- Depending on interest, the participants may be broken into smaller cohorts with different facilitators to ensure a more personalized experience in the program.
Sharing Your Interest
Participation in year 1, our pilot year, will be capped at four cohorts of 6-10 participants each. Following the pilot year, SPR plans to offer the program in subsequent years with more opportunities for participation.

Note: Participants must self-identify as a mid-career researcher and be an SPR member (SPR Junior members are not eligible).
