The Society for Pediatric Research Announces Dr. Joyce Javier as 2025 President-Elect

HOUSTON, May 20, 2025 – The Society for Pediatric Research (SPR) is pleased to announce Joyce R. Javier, MD, MPH, MS, FAAP, as the incoming President-Elect. She will serve as President-Elect from June 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026, then take office as President from June 1, 2026 – May 31, 2027.

Dr. Javier is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Systems Science at Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from the University of California Irvine School of Medicine. As a pediatrician scientist, Dr. Javier is a leader in research on Filipino child health using community-based participatory research methods, concentrating on topics such as youth suicide and depression prevention and the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based parenting interventions. Her work has been funded by KL2, K23, and R01 awards from the National Institutes of Health and grants from other sources including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program, American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

Dr. Javier has served as the SPR Advocacy Committee Co-Chair and as a member of the Pediatric Policy Council since 2018 and as an Executive Committee Member on the AAP Council on Community Pediatrics since 2019. She was recently the Advocacy Lead (2024-2025) for the Society for Pediatric Research Executive Council and also served as the SPR liaison for the AAP Committee on Federal Government Affairs and AAP Committee on Pediatric Research. She has received several awards for her work including the Local Hero Award by the AAP Council on Community Pediatrics. Dr. Javier is deeply committed to training the next generation of pediatric researchers and has served as a mentor to dozens of students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty throughout her career.
